AMERICAN HOMESTEAD SUMMER by Currier & Ives
FYI: "Landscape scene. House to left background, animals grazing right of lane. Horse-drawn wagon and driver headed down lane away from house. American Homestead Summer is one in a series of four prints depicting a traditional home during the four seasons in New England. In almost all Currier & Ives images, the concept of home referred to an idealized two-story structure, often with a porch, set in the country. Though much of the American public lived in apartments in the cities, Currier & Ives promoted the idea that the best life was found through country living. Their prints provided a link to this simpler lifestyle and contrasted the safe haven of rural America to the often morally destructive nature of developing industry in the city."
